Job Growth Holds Promise For Electricians
From your wireless internet connection and your computer itself to the lights overhead and the ventilation system circulating the air, most things you come into contact with each day rely on electricity. While we have become accustomed to having these things in our day-to-day routine, many of us rarely think about what it takes to power them. They are often just afterthoughts that we assume will always be there.
Because we are so reliant on electricity, gadgets and technology, electricians have their work cut out for them. When the power goes out in an office building, store or home, an electrician is promptly called to come out for a repair. Not only are electricians needed to make fast repairs and even to help complete construction projects, they are vital to maintenance, factory work and working with alternative power sources. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), alternative power generation 鈥 such as solar and wind 鈥 will require more electricians for installation and linking these alternative power sources to homes and power grids over the coming decade.
Are Electricians in Demand?
With that in mind, it's expected that jobs for electricians will continue to increase in the future. Just look around you. You are relying on electricity in a number of ways. In order for all of those components, devices and luxuries to work properly, an electrician had to install the wiring or otherwise enable the device to work. As residences and commercial buildings require more wiring for various technologies, electricians will be needed to install the necessary components to integrate the systems. From 2018 to 2028, employment of electricians is projected to grow 10 percent*. That comes out to nearly 74,100 new electricians needed by 2028.
