How to Make Chocolate Lava Cake
A special occasion is made all the more wonderful with the addition of a perfectly sweet ending. Dessert is the cherry on top of a fabulous meal and will send guests out on a high note. Restaurants all across the U.S. have been plating up versions of the popular chocolate lava cake, proving that people will always crave this decadent dessert. Follow the direction of Chef Jamie Roraback from the Lincoln Culinary Institute to make this gooey chocolate cake.
While these delectable cakes may seem complex, they are actually very simple to make. Melt quality bittersweet chocolate and butter together in a double boiler (in the absence of a double boiler, simply place a heat-safe bowl over a pot of boiling water). In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar. Once the chocolate is completely melted, slowly combine the two while you are mixing them together to create an emulsion. A small amount of flour is necessary for this recipe, which is sifted into the mixture and gently combined.
This simple mixture is then poured into individual ramekins to bake in the oven for about 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees. The goal is to leave the center of the cake a liquid, so you don't want to cook it all the way through. These cakes are best served warm, so you will have to act fast! Once they are done, remove the cake from the ramekin and plate them with your choice of accompaniment. Just be mindful that if you do serve with ice cream, once it is plated it will begin to melt quickly due to the warmth of the cake. Your guests will love cutting into the center of this molten chocolate cake that is oh-so delicious.
